Jim Clay had a dream of building a world class golf course and to bring a PGA tour event to Atlanta. His goal was achieved in 1964 when he founded the club and later began hosting the "Atlanta Classic." The course is built adjacent to historic Sope Creek and Confederate paper mill ruins from the Civil War era.
