The Eseeola Lodge was built in the Linville Valley in 1929 and is listed on the National Historic Register. In the shadow of Grandfather Mountain the lodge is one of North Carolina’s most renowned resorts and summer home communities. The rustic “Linville style” architecture was established in 1895 by architect Henry Bacon using Chestnut bark and logs to blend the architecture elegantly with the surrounding mountain high country.
In 2004 a major renovation of the lodge was completed including reconstruction of the central lodge lounge and dining areas, new main kitchen and administration areas. Poplar bark, poplar timbers were used to match the existing chestnut bark exterior of the original lodge. The existing and new areas of the lodge interior were restored and reconstructed to maintain a seamless blend of elegance and the historic lodge character.
